It's 2008!

I am sitting here watching the Rose Bowl Parade. That is the only way to spend New Years Day. My kitchen is smelling yummy already this morning. No hard work today!

If you have ever made pepper jelly, you will love this. This is an easy way to get the same flavors~ without all the work.

Sweet Heat Jalapenos

64 oz can sliced jalapenos
5 pounds sugar
Drain off jalapenos, pour into a large plastic bowl with a lid. Cover with the whole bag of sugar. Let sit for 3 days, stir each night. Store in the refrigerator in small jars.

Now you aren't sure what to do with them? Pour some peppers over a square of cream cheese and serve with crackers. Spread a few jalapenos on a sandwich for a sweet bite.

Maybe y'all could dice up a handful of peppers for a chow-chow for your New Year's black eyed peas For Luck or your greens For Money. That's exactly what we are planning to do.

Happy New Year y'all!

Sandi

Hey, Sandi! We already had our greens, peas & cornbread. I didn't use a lot of seasoning though, so I wasn't crazy about them, but hubby like them. My mama does it so much better than I do, but of course she uses all the ham hocks & fatty stuff. Sure does taste good though. The cornbread was outstanding though!

Happy New Year, dear Sandi!

That looks yummy. I used to love jalapenos until that fun acid reflux problem came to haunt me, but it's been so much better so maybe I'll give it a try again. Happy New Year!

Hi Sandi,
Thanks for visiting my blog. We actually ate chili beans for New Year's Day. I know, I'm not as southern as I should be.

I enjoy your blog and all the history behind the Whistlestop. My DH is a conductor for Norfolk Southern!!

Come see me again sometime!

Hugs,
Hope

Happy New Year!
I'd forgotten all about all the parades on New Year's Day! We always used to watch them - and the Vienese New Year Concert...
Times change!

I just stumbled across your blog and the title caught my attention. We live near The Whistlestop Cafe in Juliet, Ga where the movie was filmed. We like eating there, but haven't been lately. I can't wait to try the jalepeno recipe.

One thing I miss about Los Angeles is the Rose Bowl. I actually helped make a float one year. It's amazing the amount of flowers used!

Happy New Year!!!
