Decoration Day

We had a wonderful Memorial Day Celebration with family and friends. This holiday is a special holiday to remember those who have served our country. It is still known as 'DecorationDay' in the south.
How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our
hero's and she-ro's.

In addition to being a great American holiday~ it is the 'official' beginning of summer. What a better way to start the summer off than to have a houseful of friends, a dip in the ice cold pool, burn some citronella candles, and a big cookout.

In the great southern tradition of a cook- out we fired up the grill. These are just some highlights... I'll post recipes as the week goes on.

Chicken K~bobs...

Fruit Salsa~ with jalapenos...

Tomatoes, Mozzarella, and Basil...

Orange Cheesecake with raspberry topping...

Sangria!

All of this was simple and basic foods, really no recipes needed. I got the prep done ahead of time~ so when every one arrived we could just enjoy the company. There is something about standing around the grill with Jimmy Buffett in the background (on the ipod of course).

I hope y'all had a fun day too!

Looks great Sandi! It is so nice to be grilling up a storm right . . . I miss that during the long Canadian winters (when I still grill but quickly!)

Wow, that looks goooood! Especially the tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. Have you ever made a caprese salad? Basically, it's the same ingredients!
