Friday's Favorites ~ Toomer's Corner

I am almost speechless...
almost. We have just heard the news that some #$*&! idiot has poisoned the magnificent oak trees in Auburn at Toomer's corner. The #$*&! idiot has been arrested and is looking at an orange jumpsuit for a long time.

Worse than burning down a building or even harming a mascot. These beautiful trees have grown in the heart of Auburn for 130 years.
Let's hope someone can come up with something and save them... or maybe bronze them for generations to come. They've been my favorite since I was a high school girl... with a roll of toilet paper in my hands
What is your favorite today?
Y'all join in~

I'm right there with you...soooo SAD:( I'm glad that they caught this guy...sounds like the max that he can get is 10 years...not enough if you ask me. I also did a post about our beautiful trees.

Such a sad thing. Austin's Treaty Oak was poisoned in 1989. The city took great measures to save it, but it will never be the huge magnificent tree that it once was. Treaty Oak is over 500 years old. Hope they can save your tree.

even i as am alabama fan am appalled at this. it is just horrible - i'm glad they caught him and i hope they prosecute to the fullest extend of the law. that is not representative of a fan i want representing us.

You have got to be kidding!! I just cannot understand why any kind of person would want to destroy anything, but beautiful old trees!! I hate that. I don't think wearing an orange jumspsuit is punishment enough!

Sandi, we've been following this story, too. It is just unbelievable to me that some one would do anything like that. And it wasn't some college kids getting drunk and being stupid. It's a 62 yo man, who seemed very proud of himself.

As a fellow Alabamian (Tuscaloosian--is that a word, btw, lol), we have been following this story too. Don't know what his gripe is, but whatever it is, he ought to get a few years.

I heard about this on the news and thought about you Auburn fans and what a loss it must be for all of you. To make matters worse, the guy was so smug about it all.

Really too bad for all your Auburn family.....

That is horrible!
I am glad to hear the person was caught. They will probably get a lighter sentence from the court than they would the public who love those trees.
