Apple Crumble Pie
9" pie crust
tart apples
2/3 cup sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 Tbs flour
Topping
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 stick butter
Pre-heat oven to 400°
Core and slice the apples so they are the same size- about 1/4 inch thick. You will need around 4-5 cups of sliced apples. Toss together with all the ingredients to blend well, set aside. Prepare the pie-crust in a deep dish pie plate. (you can make your own crust if you want to show off)

In another bowl combine all of the ingredients for the topping. Cut the butter in, to make a crumbly topping. Pile the apples into the crust. Cover evenly with the topping. Bake 40-50 minutes until topping is browned and apples are tender.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Y'all enjoy,

I think a crumb topping is my favorite apple pie.
I'm ready for my slice...maybe two.

Great minds think alike :)

I'm on my way over!
Looks yummy!

Y'all come on over!
Sandi
I'll take my slice with a scoop of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.
Looks really, really good! So, we have lots of green tomatoes we are going to be picking - any suggestions on how to use them other then the usual Fried Green?

Maybe because I've never been too good at the double crust pie, I just LOVE the crumble top variety! What a great way to use all the best apples of the season!
I'd love a slice and any extra crumb topping laying around!mmm!
Sugar Bear~ have you ever pickled your green tomatoes? You can also make a salsa using those green tomatoes. Try frying them and using them in an 'eggplant' parmesean.
TW~ I can't believe you aren't the perfect pie crustier
Can't wait to try this one...looks scrumptious
Hi Sandi! We made it to Irondale on Sunday and had lunch at the Cafe! My hubby is still talking about how good his chicken was!
Maybe we can connect on a future trip and have the opportunity to meet.
Oh my Lord...my Daddy had cataract surgury yesterday and is coming home tomorrow...so I made the apple crumble for a welcome home (he stayed with my sister in Columbia to recoup). Well, we had to have a little taste...and now I have to bake another one cause between us, my son and daughter (inlaw) we ATE it!!!
Dang. I came by to tell you something, but looking at that pie recipe made me forget...
Oh yeah. I've outed you on my blog, you Robot Chicken watching wench! You could have knocked me over with a feather when you identified who Jake was dressed as. NEVER saw it comin'. Never. But know I now. Sandi is a Robot Chicken Lover. I would recommend you seek therapy, but I know it's no use. I've sought treatment for Robot Chicken disease myself and it's just not out there, I'm afraid. We're just sick people and will have to learn to live with that knowledge. I know the scariest part for you must be knowing that you and I have something in common, huh? Well, not to be the one to rub it in or anything, but it's obvious that YOU are a much sicker person than I am at this point. YOU knew who the Six Million Peso Man was. Me? Not so much. Which just goes to show that you must be much more addicted to Robot Chicken than little ol' innocent me. You know, I expected ME to be a degenerate because, well, I KNOW ME. But YOU? I'm still shocked at your choice of television viewing. I'm even more shocked that you admitted to it. Good to know there's other degenerates out there.... lol
So tell me - did you see the episode with Darth Vader on the phone to the Emperor? Now THAT was funny stuff.
Yummmmmm! I think I may have to head up over to the Whistlestop Cafe one of these days!!

hey Sandi..hope you are having a good week gal! now this pie looks yummilicious.
Yum, yum. I love apple recipes. I just tried out an apple coffee cake tonight, but this pie recipe is going to be next.
The crumb is my favorite part too. I could eat it with a spoon.
Oh yum! This sounds (and looks) so good.
That looks very good. I did a Apple Banana Chocolate Crumble Pie :) and it was delicious.
The apple salsa really has me salivatig right now. Yum!!
Had to visit when I saw "Whistle Stop" as I love, LOVE the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. The Wetumpka area is based on the setting of my own novel.

The apples are so good right now - and how can one go wrong with crumb topping and ice cream???? Thanks for another recipe to add to my arsenal!
